In accordance with Senate Bill 94, enacted by the Ohio Legislature and effective October 24, 2024, the Coshocton County Recorder’s Office will implement the Document Preservation Surcharge, increasing the recording fees for most documents by $5.00, beginning May 1, 2025.
This surcharge applies only to documents with a base recording fee of $34.00 for the first two pages and $8.00 for each additional page. More details can be found in the Ohio Revised Code Sections 317.32 and 317.36.
Updated Fee Structure (Effective May 1, 2025):
- First Two Pages: $34.00(base fee) +$5.00(surcharge) =$39.00
- Each Additional Page: $8.00
The collected surcharge will be used to support the preservation, digitization, and ongoing maintenance of official records within the Recorder’s Office.
Other applicable fees remain unchanged:
- Marginal Reference Fee: $4.00
- Standardization Guidelines Non-Conforming Fee: $20.00

New Document Standardization Guidelines
In Ohio, House Bill 525 will go into effect on July 1st, 2009. This new law (ORC 317.114) creates standardization guidelines for documents that are recorded in this office.
- Computer font size of at least 10 point
- Minimum paper size – 8 1/2 X 11, Maximum paper size – 8 1/2 x 14
- Black or Blue ink ONLY
- No use of highlighting
- 3 inch margin on the top of the first page, reserved for Recorder, Auditor & Engineer. 1 1/2 inch margin on the top of each of the remaining pages. Margins of 1 inch on each side of the page and on the bottom.

This law does not apply to:
- Any document from any court or taxing authority
- Plats
- DD214’s
- Any state or federal document
- Any document executed before the effective date of this law
If a document does not conform to these guidelines, an additional recording fee of $20.00 will be collected.
Document Fees: THESE ARE CURRENT RECORDING FEES, DUE TO INCREASE May 1st, 2025.
For recording and indexing when the photocopy or any similar process is employed, THIRTY-FOUR DOLLARS for the FIRST TWO PAGES and EIGHT DOLLARS for each page thereafter, size eight and one half inches by fourteen inches, or a fraction thereof, including the caption page of such instrument. Sec. 317.32. Minimum fee of $34.00. Each marginal notation is $4.00.
