Muskingum Watershed Conservancy District

All properties located in the jurisdiction of the Muskingum Watershed Conservancy District (MWCD) receive benefits related to the performance of the system of reservoirs and dams that reduce flooding and conserve water for public uses.  Ohio law details how conservancy districts generate funds for maintenance projects through assessments of property owners.  The MWCD Board of Directors approved levying an assessment, the first in its history, in the fall of 2008.  MWCD was organized in 1933.

There are six major areas of necessary maintenance in the watershed including:

  1. Dam Safety and Flood Reduction
  2. Sediment Removal
  3. Shoreline Protection
  4. Water Quality Improvements
  5. Watershed Management
  6. Reservoir Operations
Every parcel in the Watershed District was analyzed for special assessment charges.  Residential parcels are generally $12 per each group of adjacent parcels.  If you have contiguous parcels with multiple assessments, you may want to request an assessment review.  Agricultural, Commercial and Industrial parcels are assessed at a different rate.  If you feel your parcel has been assessed incorrectly, you may file a Request for Assessment Review Form with the MWCD (link below).
